"All political appointees who were elected as delegates to the National Convention slated for today, March 26, 2022 SHALL NOT VOTE in view of the controversy surrounding Section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act, 2022," the ruling party's Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) said in a statement.
Political appointees, on the other hand, are welcome to observe the convention. This is in accordance with the modified electoral statute, which made it illegal for political appointees to run for office unless they resigned beforehand. This complies with President Muhammadu Buhari's recently passed electoral statute.
