HIGH STAKE LOBBY FROM NORTHERN ESTABLISHMENT DELAYS NAMING OF OBI'S RUNNING MATE, OKUPE HOLDS THE SPACE- Jones FCC

Nigeria's incoming President, Mr. Peter Obi has submitted the name of one of his staunchest political allies, Doyin Okupe, as his presidential running mate, to beat INEC deadline for submission of names of candidates and their running mate.

Investigations show that Mr. Obi could not reach a final decision on a running mate due to high stake lobbying from key Northern blocs and leaderships as his acceptability in the North continues to gain unprecedented momentum.

According to a source familiar with the development; "The business tycoon and respected economist is in an intricate negotiation with key Northern leaders, including, past and serving governors, Emirs and other key religious and political leaders from the North. His Excellency would want to carry everyone along in this process, to ensure that at the end, whoever will be the running mate will further fortify the nationwide solidarity which his candidacy has so far enjoyed."

The source explained that Mr. Obi is not merely interested in nominating a running mate that will bring good electoral value to his ticket, but also someone who would be a strong partner in his determined bid to reset Nigeria, quickly.
